Hans Neumann (Lima, 1981) turns his attention to a new medium for Ensayo #2: a happening. Neumann’s personal immigration story, combined with the current political context in the USA (where he lives), is also the catalyst for the second chapter in this series. For Ensayo 2, Neumann collaborates with another Hans (Hans Maharawal, New York, 1975), who despite being born and raised in New York, is also of immigrant descent.

Through this collaboration, the premise for Ensayo 2 is a straight forward one: build a ladder and use it to climb buildings or walls in and around Brooklyn, NY. Although the main action of the happening is the building of the ladder, and the use of it to climb over, the main intent of this work is the collaboration between two individuals: an immigrant and a non-immigrant, to build something that will help them overcome something bigger than them using a self-made tool, as a symbol of introspection and self-fulfillment.
