In Ensayo 3 as with its preceding two volumes, Neumann continues focusing his investigation on migration. For this series, he ventures to Malta after meeting Martina Farugia via instagram, now probably one of the biggest symbols and facilitators of globalization, and the tool responsible for being the catalyst for this series. After months of exchanging emails with Farugia, Neumann was able to uncover more of the culture that surrounds Martina’s context, as well as her more immediate friends.

Having gained its independence as recent as 1964, Malta, its culture, inhabitants and context becomes a central point and the basis of Ensayo 3. With this in mind, through the use of video and stills photography, this volume takes a closer look at one of Malta’s first independent generations by documenting these individuals as they express themselves through performance art, mixed media and poetry. Through their practices, captured by Neumann’s lens, they portrait an ethereal view of the country, their youth and dreams.
